Farrell Fields buys only certified organic seeds from the following vendors:
Most of our produce is direct seeded, but our tomatoes and spring mix are transplanted. Seedlings start in 72 or 200 cell flats, using a soil mixture comprised of Gia Green 4-4-4, SunGro’s Black Gold Natural & Organic Potting Mix, and Worm Castings which we purchase from a place in Tavistock, ON.
We practice high-density, high-rotation crop planting in row beds. Each time a bed is turned over, worm castings, along with a few pinches of the Gia Green, are added when going from a root to leaf crop. All other rotations follow typical crop rotation flow: leaf -> fruit -> root -> Nitrogen-fixing.
